For the first time Team South Africa was one. Under the three umbrella’s: Brand SA, South Africa Tourism and Proudly South African, I got a chance to rediscover my favourite province in a completely new light a few days.
About a week ago I was blessed to see my birth province like I had never bfore. The tour introduced me to some unique aspects of the province that I didn’t know anything about including:
- Technological innovations
- Province Economic Growth
- Infrastructure and manufacturing capabilities
- Political History
- Strawberry Farming
FIRST SOME EDUCATION…
THE DUBE TRADEPORT
Our first stop was the Dube Tradeport head office close to the airport. Here we learn some really interesting facts about what they offer the province and this special economic zone. Next we visited one the greenhouse projects where employment is created for farmers and other workers with the outcome of great produces for the entire country to enjoy. We got to see the production of cucumbers and how the entire process worked.

ALBERT LUTHULI MUSEUM
Now I must admit I didn’t really know much about this legendary political freedom fighter and boy was I schooled. Situated in KwaDukuza, about a 30 min drive from the airport, I found a huge source of information. I left feeling embarrassed for not knowing more about Chief Albert Lutuli yet inspired to get home and education my family and friends of the rich modern day heritage KZN held.
Read more about the museum and do make a stop next time you are in the province. Get informed and get your children informed http://luthulimuseum.org.za/
NOW FOR SOME FUN…
Next on the schedule was a food stop. We stopped at the Sand Bar in Umdloti. What a hidden gem this small little dinner was. I had the best prawn in my life right here. The food was in fact amazing, the cocktails divine and the service impeccable meaning I am telling everyone I know to go check it out. Thanks to people at KZN Tourism for exposing me to such awesomeness.
We then checked into our hotel later in the evening. As always the Beverly Hills in Umhlanga is to die for. What I didn’t know it that it was the first five star hotel in the country and was owned by the great Sol Kerzner. We had a semi-formal soiree with the whole team and then off to dinner. All was great and the evening ended off perfectly with a G&T. Breakfast was beautifully laid out, tasted great with the ocean in the backdrop.
For the perfect getaway do check into the Beverly Hills hotel. You can thank me later https://www.tsogosun.com
STRAWBERRY FARM
After breakfast we hit the strawberry farm out in Cappeny Estates . It was my first time so I was super excited. This popular hydroponic strawberry farm is the only commercial strawberry farm in. Ballito . Situated between the hills of iLembe and the Indian Ocean. Built entirely from scratch by the Gumede Family, who are first-generation farmers and proud members of the Ballito community. I ate until I could eat no more and still took a whole box home for the family. I will definitely be back with the kids.
It’s a must do when next in the province. Check out their website for more info http://www.cappenyestates.com/
Thanks for team SA for helping me rediscover the beautiful province that is KwaZulu Natal
