South African-born performing artist Cara Frew was among the distinguished guests at The Albies, held on September 26 at the New York Public Library. The event was hosted by Amal and George Clooney, co-founders of the Clooney Foundation for Justice.
Named in honour of Justice Albie Sachs, who played a pivotal role in ending apartheid in South Africa, The Albies spotlight courageous individuals and organisations worldwide who risk their lives in the fight for justice.
Now in its third year, The Albies continue to celebrate those who have faced significant threats and overcome immense challenges in their pursuit of justice. This year’s honourees—Luis Carlos Díaz, Memory Banda, Nadia Murad, Women Wage Peace x Women of the Sun, and Dolores Huerta—were recognised for their fearless efforts. The event was co-presented by Versace, along with Charlotte Tilbury and Microsoft.
The evening featured award presentations by Michelle Obama, Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, Emily Blunt, John Krasinski, and Jon Stewart. Hosted by comedian John Oliver, the night included performances by 17-time Grammy Award-winner Sting and British folk-rock band Mumford & Sons. Cara Frew joined an exclusive guest list alongside Donatella Versace, Doja Cat, Jimmy Fallon, Melinda French Gates, Princess Mabel van Oranje, Busy Philipps, Shailene Woodley, and Charlotte Tilbury, making the evening a remarkable celebration of justice and advocacy.
