It’s less than a month to go until Comic Con Africa – a time in the year where friends, families, and fandoms connect. But something that sets Comic Con Africa apart from other events and festivals is KidsCon, an entire area on the Comic Con Africa show floor that is lovingly dedicated to the future Con goer.
As the perfect activity for school holiday in September, this year the KidsCon feature of Comic Con Africa will beheld at the Johannesburg Expo Centre from 26 September to 29 September with a 340 square meter Toys R Us pop up shopping experience at the centre of it all. In this area, young fans can purchase a variety of beloved toy brands from the likes of LEGO, Barbie, Hot Wheels, Nintendo, Transformers, and more.
Another exciting feature of KidsCon is the character meet-and-greets which will feature Mario, Luigi, Noodle & Bun, Geoffrey the Giraffe, as well as The Lego Man. Photos with these characters are free when they are roaming the floor – making for memorable moments that kids will cherish.
“KidsCon has grown to become the experience that we all wanted when we were kids!” said Show Director for Comic Con Africa, Carla Massmann.
“The concept of KidsCon gives young fans the opportunity to run around and meet their favourite heroes in an already exciting environment. Due to the overwhelming demand from last year’s show for KidsCon to have its own dedicated space, we are excited to be housing KidsCon in Hall 7this year.”
This year KidsCon is also proud to house multiple engaging experiences, that are free to participate in, directly by the brands that will be retailing – giving young fans the opportunity to directly step in to the worlds that they love. Highlights from this year include a superhero training experience hosted by the National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD) in partnership with Disney, a LEGO activation, as well as interactive activities from a variety toy brands.
KidsCon is also dedicated to cementing the seriousness of eSports development in South Africa as best demonstrated through a partnership with RGB gaming; an organisation focuses on making eSports accessible in high schools and primary schools.
