SALUTING OUR LOCAL MUSICAL ICONS AT THE DSTV DELICIOUS FEST

by

They may no longer be with us, but their incredible music lives on in our hearts and minds. Join today’s hottest artists for a trip down memory lane to celebrate our late, great music legends of yesteryear during the 30 Years of Creative Freedom Tribute Show, produced in collaboration with Real Concerts, taking place on 21 and 22 September 2024 at the DStv Delicious International Food & Music Festival Powered by LottoStar at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit.

Poignantly, the tribute concerts on both days will feature performances by the children of departed music icons Hugh Masekela (by his son, Selema Writes), Sibongile Khumalo (by her daughter Ayanda Khumalo and her son Tshepo Mngoma), Mandoza (by sons Tokollo and Tumelo Tshabalala) and Johnny Clegg (by son Jesse Clegg) – marking the symbolic passing of the musical torch from one generation of greats to another.

Saturday, 21 September: A Tribute to Hip-Hop and Kwaito Legends

The first evening of the DStv Delicious Festival powered by LottoStar will toast the vibrant legacy of South African hip-hop and kwaito pioneers who, even though they are no longer with us, continue to influence our musical soundscape.

The 2 hour show will feature performances by Boom Shaka, Khuli Chana, Yanga, Okmalumkoolkat, Reason, Maggz, Touchline, Cassper Nyovest, Morafe and Focalistic, as well as Tokollo and Tumelo Tshabalala, paying tribute to the extraordinary talents of AKA, HHP, Lebo Mathosa, Mandoza, Pro Kid and Riky Rick.

The dynamic Robot Boii (whom many will know as Mzwakhe Mbuli Jnr) will host the segment, with artists performing medleys of popular songs by each late legend – ensuring an unforgettable experience of rhythm and remembrance.

Sunday, 22 September: Honouring South Africa’s Musical Giants

Sunday takes us back to the jams of yesteryear with a  two-hour medley paying tribute to South Africa’s musical giants whose timeless contributions have transcended generations and genres.

Hosted by the poetic Mzwakhe Mbuli Snr, this special segment will celebrate the lives and legacies of Hugh Masekela, Miriam Makeba, Lucky Dube, Sibongile Khumalo, Ray Phiri (Stimela), Johnny Clegg, Joseph Tshabalala (Ladysmith Black Mambazo) and Brenda Fassie.
