UNIVERSAL TV’S FAMILY LAW IS BACK FOR A THIRD SEASON THIS MONTH

by

NBCUniversal International Networks & Direct-To-Consumer today announced the return of Canadian legal drama, Family Law, for a third season on Universal TV Africa (DStv Channel 117) from Tuesday 17 October at 8 PM (CAT), with episodes available on Universal+ immediately after airing.

Family Law follows three dysfunctional half-siblings working under their father at a family law firm – all while navigating their own personal dramas. The returning cast includes Jewel Staite, Victor Garber, Zach Smadu, Genelle Williams and Lauren Holly.

Clear of her probation and divorce, Abby (Staite) is riding high at Svensson & Svensson — but the hard work of reckoning with her past is just beginning. She moves on to AA’s Step Four — writing her moral inventory — and begins her nesting arrangement with Frank. On her off weeks, she still lives with her mother Joanne (Holly), whose rekindled relationship with Harry (Garber) is churning up all of Abby’s childhood trauma.

Meanwhile, Harry revels in Abby and Daniel’s (Smadu) cutthroat competition for top earner at the firm — until his reckless past comes back to haunt him. Daniel’s romance with Martina is cut short when her boyfriend Quinn returns — and takes on a new layer of complexity when Quinn befriends Daniel.

The 10 x 60-minute third season was produced in Vancouver, with creator Susin Nielsen (Robson Arms) returning as showrunner and executive producer. Family Law is produced by Calgary’s SEVEN24 Films and Vancouver’s Lark Productions. Executive producers on Family Law include SEVEN24 Films’ Jordy Randall and Tom Cox, Lark Productions’ Erin Haskett, and Andy Mikita, who also serves as a director on Season Three. Entertainment One (eOne) handles the worldwide distribution for the series.

Joining Mikita are directors Jordan Canning (Schitt’s Creek, The Lake), David Frazee (Vikings) and Alysse Leite-Rogers (A Kindhearted Christmas). Writers on season three include Sarah Dodd (Cardinal), Ken Craw (Heartland), Sonja Bennett (Letterkenny), Corey Liu (The Next Step) and Jordan Hall (Carmilla).
