CELEBRAATING 60 YEARS OF LOCAL ICON BRAND CADBURY LUNCHBAR

Picture this, a crackling fire, a sky full of stars, and a group of South Africans gathered around, sharing stories of the past. And what better tale to tell than the legend of Cadbury LunchBar, a chocolate bar that has given Much, Much More than just a sweet treat for the last 60 years!

From its first bite in the 1960s to the legendary adverts that are still spoken of in the streets of South Africa, Cadbury LunchBar has consistently brought joy, laughter, and its unmistakable nutty, nougat-filled delight. This year marks 6 decades of nostalgia and, of course, Much, Much More!

Reflecting on this milestone, Ayesha Hassim, Brand Manager of Cadbury LunchBar, states, “The sweet treat has always been more than just a chocolate, it is a part of South African culture. For 60 years, it has brought people together through laughter, nostalgia, and delicious moments. This 60th anniversary celebrates the magic that Cadbury LunchBar has created over the years.” 

Cadbury LunchBar has played an important role in shaping South African pop culture, those who recall the 1980s will remember the first TV ad, “Can I have a wee bite?” a simple yet unforgettable line that had South Africans everywhere craving for just one more bite. The 1990s saw the rise of Makhathini and the iconic “Fetch, Jock!” moment, transforming a chocolate commercial into Much, Much, More, a cultural icon. The 2000s introduced “Oviaas”, a catchphrase synonymous with the brand’s playful personality and constantly on the tip of South Africans’ tongues.

Nomawethu Ngadlela, Chocolate Category Lead for Sub-Sahara Africa would like to give thanks to all the consumers who consistently choosing LunchBar as their first choice for the past 60 years. Cadbury LunchBar launched a nationwide competition to commemorate the occasion, giving 60 lucky South Africans the opportunity to stand a chance to munch on a whopping R1 million. As Cadbury LunchBar grows, one wonders what this new chapter will bring. Will Lucas Baloyi return to uncover another out-of-this-world mystery? Ayesha Hassim urges South Africans to keep their eyes glued to their small and big screens for an adventure that promises to deliver much, much more! “Whether it involves aliens, a secret stash of Cadbury LunchBars, or a portal to another dimension, all will be revealed”, says Ayesha.
