GRAMMY®-winning South African superstar Tyla’s two-city December tour of her home country proved to be the hottest ticket in local music when it went on sale in October, quickly selling out as her enthusiastic fans – Tyla’s Tygas – grabbed their chance to see their idol up close and in person in Cape Town and Pretoria. Those who missed the Johannesburg concert out can now breathe a sigh of relief – the singer will return to the SunBet Arena at Time Square in Menlyn, Pretoria for one show only on 18 January 2025. They’ll still have to take their chances with the tickets, though, especially after the rapturous reception Tyla received at both her recent SA concerts. Tyla is top of mind!
This extension to the Tyla SA Tour is proudly brought to you by leading local promoters Anything Goes and Showtime Management. Tickets for the January show, priced from R500 each are on sale at www.ticketmaster.co.za, the exclusive official Tyla SA ticketing agent. Support acts and guest artists will be announced in due course.
Tyla is absolutely thrilled about the response from homegrown audiences and how it takes into 2025 the incredible momentum she built up in 2024, saying, “Everything that’s happening has surpassed anything I could have dreamt of. African music is going global and I’m so blessed to be one of the artists pushing the culture. I’ve been working on my sound for two years now and I’m so ready for the world to hear it.”
Tyla is best known for her mega-hit ‘Water’, which won her the inaugural Best African Music Performance award at the Grammys, and has lit up charts all around the work, including in the hugely important US market where it reached #7 on the Billboard US Hot 100, and #1 on the Billboard Afrobeats Chart, Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay Chart, Hot R&B Songs Chart and Adult R&B Airplay Charts. Water is the first solo song in history to spend an entire year at #1 on the Billboard US Afrobeats song charts for 52 weeks.
Tyla is a major presence in the nominees list for the 2024 Billboard Music Awards, nominated in, among others, the Top R&B Artist, Top R&B Female Artist and Top Afrobeats Artist categories. And she is in exalted company there, too, tied in third place with Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Post Malone and Teddy Swims, who all received eight nominations. The Billboard Music Awards will be held in Los Angeles on 12 December – here’s hoping she receives an armful of trophies!
The singer also performed brilliantly at the recent South African Music Awards with seven nominations and three wins – Best Pop Album, Female Artist of The Year and Newcomer of The Year. Her debut album TYLA,released in March 2024, continues to be acclaimed for its blend of Amapiano, Afrobeats, contemporary R&B and pop and its stellar cast of collaborators including Travis Scott, Tems, Gunna, Skillibeng, Becky G.
NME calls Tyla, “South Africa’s brightest new star.” Rolling Stone has christened her “The perfect Amapiano ambassador.” Pitchfork’s review of her album states: “The South African singer’s star-making debut is a lithe, contemporary take on pop-R&B that pulses with the log-drum heartbeat of Amapiano.” As she gets ready to build on the world-encompassing success of 2024, make sure you’re in Jozi so you can grab your chance to see this extraordinary talent in person, right here at home.
