After nearly a year’s sabbatical from broadcasting, Hulisani Ravele embarks on a new era with a special return to the airwaves as a guest host.
In September 2023, much-loved media personality and seasoned broadcaster, Hulisani Ravele, hosted her final Weekend Breakfast show on Primedia’s 947 as she embarked on a sabbatical; her first break from the media landscape in her 26-year career.
This Women’s Month, Hulisani will make an appearance on Kaya 959’s Feel Good with Andy Maqondwana as guest host of the Girl Let’s Talk feature every Wednesday afternoon during August.
“As I enter this 27th year of my career, the time off has matured my sense of self and heightened my desire to continue doing work that has purpose, power and impact,” says Hulisani. “My sabbatical plunged me into a solitude that had me wrestling with many emotions. Fully accepting that this was my era of stillness and a time to just remember who I am, was an important hurdle for me to overcome,” she adds.
It was this acknowledgement and peace with the era she found herself in, that sparked an idea for Hulisani to partner with Glade’s #InMyEra campaign, to spotlight and celebrate other women, no matter the era they are in.
“Society often highlights the CEOs, the movers, shakers and high achievers, but what about the everyday women who find themselves navigating new chapters, new eras, which are unique and important to their personal journey? We want to celebrate and honour everyday women from all walks of life this Women’s Month; the women who very well may have found themselves amongst the 20 000 who marched upon the Union Buildings in 1956,” Ravele shares.
The #InMyEra campaign will see listeners nominating a woman in their life or work organisation, who they believe deserves her flowers in whatever era she is in. Starting Wednesday 7 August, one special woman will be invited to the Kaya 959 studios every week throughout Women’s Month, for an interview with Andy and Hulisani, as they reflect on and celebrate the individual and the particular era she finds herself in right now.
“Glade is committed to using empowerment as a key pillar in our purpose led marketing, in order to support & uplift women and contribute to the tapestry of South Africa. Hulisani and this campaign truly embody this vision, and we are excited to celebrate and learn from the women who continuously Make Africa Bloom,” Dikeledi Mauwane, Brand Manager – Glade
Reflecting on what era she is stepping into now, Hulisani says: “I’m emerging from the stillness and what I coined my ‘Remember who you are’ era and I am now stepping into my ‘Now do you see?’ era; an era that will see me understanding, appreciating and enjoying the fruits of why the quiet season had to happen.
