With more and more people becoming flexitarians (those who choose to primarily follow a plant-based diet with occasional inclusion of animal products, often referred to as “casual vegetarianism”), The Good Life Show couldn’t be better timed. The Good Life Show takes place in Cape Town (31st May – 2nd June 2024) and Johannesburg (26th – 28th July 2024) and hosts four dynamic events under one roof, with one ticket allowing access to all four shows.
A recent ProVeg International study shows that, in South Africa, flexitarianism has grown by a 6% to 10% increase in the last year alone. This rise is mainly due to consumers becoming more aware of the health benefits associated with reducing their animal products consumption; awareness and concern around animal welfare generally; as well as current economic challenges which are influencing people to actively look for cheaper protein alternatives such as lentils, beans, and chickpeas. Meat-free meals are also often quicker and simpler to prepare, which offers obvious advantages during the current cost of living crisis. Some additional motivators to this lifestyle change are health, variety, price, and a desire to simply eat a more natural, unprocessed diet.
This coincides with more and more consumers choosing to live more ‘consciously’ and responsibly and this, in turn, affects consumers actively seeking household, hygiene and clothing items that are ethically sourced, cruelty-free, and environmentally sustainable.
Answering the call, The Good Life Show will give its visitors the information and the inspiration they need. Along with plant-based food and drink items available, there will also be also organic, ethical, and sustainable food and household products on show and on sale, and all the producers will be able to answer any questions about their products, their origins, and benefits. There will also be an area which will host dedicated educational talks with experts in the sustainable, agricultural and lifestyle sectors.
As more and more people become ‘flexitarians’ and ‘conscious consumers’, The Good Life Show is the perfect environment for them to expand their knowledge and gain valuable inspiration. As consumers become more aware and informed about how the food they eat, the state of their health and the state of the environment are all connected, The Good Life Show will not only help visitors plan their future food and lifestyle habits, but also help them make appropriate product and purchase decisions.
