THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO PROPOSING IN THE CITY OF LOVE – PARIS

by

Paris has certainly made a name for itself as the city of love. The romantic French capital has been a place where couples from around the world come to celebrate their love and has become a hotspot for marriage proposals. This month of love, Air France shares why Paris continues to set itself apart in the romance department while shining a light on some of the city’s most romantic destinations for anyone planning to go down on one knee in the months to come.

The Eiffel Tower

This iconic landmark has been the backdrop for hundreds of thousands of proposals over the past few decades. While, understandably, one would think that this destination is cliché, the truth is there is a reason why the tower remains one of the most romantic destinations in the world. Additionally, there are creative ways to ensure a marriage proposal at the tower is made special. Proposing with the tower as a backdrop could be a great way to differentiate your proposal. Popping the question at Champ de Mars or The Trocadéro offers a scenic view of the Eiffel Tower in the background without the hustle and bustle of the popular tourist attraction. Alternatively, proposing at night is a great way to add 20,000 sparkles to your marriage proposal. The tower’s famous light display is turned on for a few minutes at the top of the hour after the sun goes down, making it an incredibly romantic scene for this big moment.

The Wall Of Love

Want to pop the question but can’t find the right words to express your love? Paris’ famous wall of love can do all the work for you. Creative artists Frédéric Baron and Claire Kito created The Wall of Love (also known as the I Love You Wall or Le mur des je t’aime), a 40-square-metre Wall of Love literally spells out 311 different ways to say “I love you” in 250 different languages. Located on Place des Abbesses in the quaint Montmartre district, the mural is made up of 612 enamelled lava tiles with several red splashes scattered around, representing the pieces of a broken heart. Montmartre also offers a variety of romantic restaurants, a variety of artists who offer hand-drawn portraits and beautiful streets to enjoy a romantic walk with your new fiancé.

A Boat Cruise On The River Seine

If you’re looking to pop the question in the world’s most romantic city without the bustle of tourists, a private boat cruise on the River Seine is a great way to create a romantic and private affair. There are various dinner cruises available on the river which sail past Paris’ most famous landmarks, all whilst enjoying some fine French cuisine in a super-romantic setting. This is a great way to turn up the sophistication a little bit. It’s the perfect setting to get dressed up, sip champagne and enjoy the backdrop of Paris after your loved one has said yes.

The Tuileries Garden

Looking to pop the question somewhere a little quieter? Paris is a busy city and tourists from around the world flock to the destination to experience its charm and unique attractions. However, The Tuileries Garden (Jardin des Tuileries) is a beautiful park which gives the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the world-class city. Located between the Louvre Museum and the Place de la Concorde, The Tuileries Garden is a charming, green, romantic destination that will make any proposal one to remember. The venue is a little more secluded and will certainly make any proposal a little more unexpected. The park is also incredibly close to the Lourve, which is a great place to explore after the big moment.

The Sacré-Cœur Basilica

At the very top of Montmartre hill sits the famous Sacré-Cœur Basilica. The iconic church is known as one of the most beautifully designed buildings in Paris. It has one of the most incredible views of the city where visitors can marvel at the Invalides, Notre Dame, the Eiffel Tower and the many quintessential orange Parisian roof tops. Although it does get very busy on weekends, this famous Roman Catholic Church is an incredibly romantic place to pop the question. After the proposal, enjoy a quick walk over to the artist-filled Place des Tertres for dinner and drinks. The street is filled with music and art and offers the perfect ending to the start of a new chapter.
