BET Africa, in partnership with Nedbank, is set to launch Nedbank Money Challenge: Family Edition, a new family-oriented reality television series hosted by well-known actor and presenter Aaron Moloisi. Viewers will follow four families around Gauteng for 13 weeks and watch them go about their daily lives, and follow their financial and entrepreneurial journeys as they work towards their financial goals. This show will air exclusively on DStv channel 129 from 4 June 2022.
We have a diverse range of families on the show, which vary across nuclear, single and blended households. Let us introduce you to them:
The Manamela family
Made up of six members, both parents are unemployed; the dad lost his job as a logistics supervisor in September 2021 and the mom has been unemployed since 2014. Their financial goal is to build and run a film and photography studio.
The Mashego family
Made up of three sisters and their two nieces, their family goal is to complete their mother’s home in Etwatwa which has been an ongoing struggle to complete for the past 12 years. Their mother has been living in a backroom and it’s their wish to have her move into the main house
The Seloma familly
Made up of three sisters where the eldest is the sole provider, despite also having her own household to look after, the sisters’ main goal is to honour their mother’s dying wish by fixing their kitchen and restoring their home.
The Mogales
This big family of nine from Orange Farm lives in their grandmothers RDP home. They started an egg side hustle to support themselves after their mother lost her job in 2021. Their family goal is to repair their leaking roof.
“We are thrilled to partner with Nedbank on this fresh and authentic local reality series that will engage, entertain and educate our viewers on making better money choices, and elevate family goals,” says Monde Twala, Senior Vice-President and General Manager for Paramount Africa and Peer Lead, BET International. “The Nedbank Money Challenge will help participants and our audience make better financial decisions,” Twala said.
Buli Ndlovu, Executive Head for Retail and Business Banking Marketing at Nedbank, says: “It was key for Nedbank to come up with a differentiated way of positioning its family banking offering in the market, aligned to making better money choices for you and your family. Nedbank Money Challenge: Family Edition, is a clear demonstration that offering South Africans accessible and affordable banking solutions is our commitment to financial inclusion. Through the reality television series we aim to address the families’ financial needs, as well as challenges they are faced with on a daily basis as they make these hard money decisions. Our aim as Nedbank is to continue having conversations about money – and it starts with a family unit, because a family that banks together makes better money choices for their future selves.”
“At Nedbank, we aim to leverage our banking expertise to make a real difference in our clients’ lives, communities and society and help them see their money circumstances differently. Everyone has different needs and circumstances, which must be considered when making financial decisions. Through our family banking offering we are able to address family household care points, such as financial stability, protecting our children and saving for their education, as well as short- and long-term insurance needs,” she concluded.
