TONGHT, established at the beginning of 2017, as a party for the grown and sexy, by DJ Kenzhero, Kid Fonque and Maria McCloy, will solidify its status as one of the hottest parties in Jozi with the next edition featuring Kwaito legend, Thebe. With the musically eclectic TONGHT (pronounced Tonight) trio on decks from 9pm onwards, Thebe will take to the stage at Newtown’s And Club on Saturday, 5 August.

It’s sure to be a great night out at the fourth installation of this party series curated by music scene veterans in the form of acclaimed DJs, radio personalities and party promoters DJ Kenzhero (Sound Supreme, Kaya FM Saturdays 2- 6pm) and Kid Fonque (Selective Styles 5FM Sundays 5 – 7) and urban culture specialist, publicist and designer, Maria McCloy.

“TONGHT is growing into what we planned and more,” says DJ Kenzhero. “It’s an all genre, quality event aimed at a mature target market known as grown folks… Look forward to an ignitement of flashbacks whilst also looking into the future.” His fellow music industry veteran Kid Fonque adds: “We’ve featured Zaki Ibrahim, Melo B Jones, Ziyon and Stogie T before and we can see that a lot of people are looking forward to seeing Thebe.”

With a career that spans over 15 years, Thebe has 12 albums of classic kwaito hits to perform, from his debut Tempy Pusher to his latest, The Legend, he is one of pioneering kwaito label Kalawa Jazzmee’s most enduring stars.

Born in Polokwane, Limpopo, Thebe is a father, performing artist, composer, producer and a businessman. After his sound engineering studies, all Thebe wanted was to work behind the scenes, but fate wouldn’t let him. While staying with Bruce Sebitlo and working as a club DJ, Thebe and Bruce composed songs for friends to be played in clubs. But when Oscar “Oskido” heard the songs whilst playing at the same club as Thebe, he immediately offered him a recording deal. This was followed by his first album, titled Tempy Life, which was the actual demo tracks, that were just mixed and mastered.

The single “Philly” went on to become one of the biggest hit tracks in the country, with the album reaching Gold Status. Thebe went on to record 12 successful albums, receiving massive airplay and performing extensively all over South Africa. He has since sold over 450 000 copies within the 15 years he has been in the music industry.

As is always the case with TONGHT’s DJs, “People can always expect that our sets will be dynamic and entertaining at the same time,” says DJ Kenzhero. “Expect Hip Hop, Soul, Kwaito and Deep House vibes. Fun is the aim!”
