From 24 May 2017 to 28 May 2017, Soweto Fashion Week (SFW) promises another exciting and emerging communal fashion week. South Africa’s young talented fashion designers are expected to present their Autumn Winter 18 Fall collections in the heart of Soweto at 7pm at the renowned Soweto Theatre. The fashion week will run for five days this year with the addition of a full Buyers Day/pop up shop happening on Sunday, 28 May at the theatre.
Themed Black & White, Soweto Fashion Week aims to reach out and cover the demographic gap within the fashion week showcase, celebrating their existing and welcoming new talent irrespective of their racial or political affiliations. The SFW platform prides itself for developing and recognizing local designers, giving them the opportunity to showcase their business holistically. The pop-up store/buyers day will ensure business development, retail assistance in ensuring return of investment within the platform for all designers showcasing. This day is also open for the public to shop/order their favorite looks from the runway.
Darling Hair is the reigning principle sponsor for Soweto Fashion Week. This dynamic partnership has seen 8 official SFW showcases (including this one) in the past 3 years. The partnership influences aspiration and aim to uplift the Soweto community through fashion and hairstyling. Joining Darling Hair is other long-standing partners and existing sponsors such as Soweto TV, Joburg Tourism, ZeeWorld and Gauteng Tourism. This season, SFW welcomes CBC beverage (Cape Brewing Co.) and Mail & Guardian as the sponsors of the showcase. The aims’ for the event is to always develop, uplift and empower young upcoming fashion creatives, designers, models and upcoming artists respectively; and what better way to do it with brands that aim to do the same thing.

The SFW-AW18 Fashion Week will take place from Wednesday, 24 May 2017 at 7pm for the launch party, Thursday to Saturday at 7pm for the designers’ showcase and Sunday, 28 May 2017 at 10am till 5pm for the pop up store/buyers day all happening at Soweto Theatre in Jabulani, Soweto.
