Special Olympics South African National Team heads to Austria to compete at the 2017 Special Olympics Winter World games next month.
Special Olympics World Winter Games will provide the platform for athletes with intellectual disabilities to rise above the typical stereotype of daily exclusion. Using sports as a catalyst to create opportunities for athletes to be defined by their abilities rather than their disabilities.
Special Olympics South Africa (SOSA) will be hosting a send off function for our National team at Midrand Conference Centre, north Of Johannesburg on the 13th Of March 2017. We need your help to raise funds for the team.
Our team will be joined by the Honourable Deputy Minister of Sport, Mr Gert Oousthuizen, Special Olympics South Africa Chairperson Dr, Mathews Phosa as well as Special Olympics Ambassadors, Letshego Zulu, Melanie Ramjee, Mark Fish, Sibusiso Vilakazi, Lil red, Diamond Thopola, Rofhiwa Maemu, David Rees and Quinn Brown amongst others.
An enthusiastic team of 32 individuals consisting of athletes, coaches and support staff will depart on the 13th to Graz in Austria to attend the games. The SOSA athletes will be competing in 3 different sports codes, floor hockey, figure skating and short speed skating.
2,700 Special Olympics athletes from 107 countries will gather in Austria to show the world their talent, bravery, determination, and spirit.
The 2017 Special Olympics South Africa National Team will be hoping to replicate the incredible success of the 2015 National Team that returned victorious from the Summer World Games in LA with a phenomenal 61 medals.
