Last night MTV Base announced that Nigerian star Wizkid had won the Best African Act category at the MTV EMAs. MTV Base announced the news on Twitter @MTVBaseAfrica just a few hours ahead of the glittering ceremony at the Ahoy Stadium, Rotterdam; The Netherlands on 6 November 2016.

The triumph comes just two weeks after Wizkid triumphed with three awards at the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) 2016 in Johannesburg, and just 10 days after he was honoured at the MOBO awards in London.

The runners up for Best African Act were Alikiba, Black Coffee, Olamide and Cassper Nyovest.

Wizkid, who was unable to travel to Rotterdam to collect his award, thanked his fans and MTV Base in a video message.

The 2016 MTV EMA, in partnership with Évos headphones and Smirnoff, broadcasts LIVE across Africa on MTV and MTV Base at 22:00 CAT on Sunday 6 November 2016.

The 2016 MTV EMAs will be hosted and feature a performance by Bebe Rehxa, with additional performances by The Weeknd, Bruno Mars, Green Day, Kings of Leon, OneRepublic, Martin Garrix, Afrojack, Shawn Mendes, DNCE, Lukas Graham and Zara Larsson, and appearances by G-Eazy, Charli XCX, Tinie Tempah, Idris Elba, Jaden Smith, Nina Dobrev, Deepika Padukone, Jourdan Dunn, Winnie Harlow and more.
