AKA to represent SA at AFRIMMA.
The countdown has begun to a momentous day in African music and culture as the African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) 2014 honours the world’s top African musical artists such as South African hip hop giant AKA as well as managers, producers, DJs and cultural influences who are using music to cross boundaries and celebrate the beauty of African music and artistry.
This year’s AFRIMMA Awards will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at the world renowned Eisemann Center in Richardson, Texas and will be hosted by Africa’s number 1 Comedian, Basket Mouth and Nollywood/ Ghollywood sensation, Juliet Ibrahim.
Even though this year’s nominee list is filled with talented artists there are a few artists to look out for such as South African rapper AKA nominated for ‘Best Male (Southern Africa).’ The Congratulate hitmaker will compete against local stars Donald and Khuli Chana in the best male artist in Southern Africa category, and stands as the only South African to be nominated as best rap artist.
Lira, Toya De Lazy and Zahara are nominated for ‘Best Female (Southern Africa).’ While Mafikizolo have been nominated for ‘Best African Group’ and Ntokozo Mbambo for ‘Best Gospel Artist.’
The star studded event is expected to attract honorary guests from various cities throughout the United States as well as 17 African Countries.
Celebrity guests expected to attend the event include award winning Nigerian singer, song writer and producer 2face Idibia, American singer, songwriter, rapper, record producer and actor, T-Pain. Other artists to take the stage include Wyre, Davido, Iyanya, Miriam Cemmoss and Diamond Platinumz.
Founder of AFRIMMA, Anderson Obiagwu said “The event will not only
celebrate the music of Africa, but celebrates the unique sounds, culture and artists that tell the stories of our continent as a whole.” He added “AFRIMMA represents growth, celebration while pushing the culture and music of Africa continuously forward for the better.
It will be an amazing night celebrating the artists who have influenced and impacted the culture as well as the pioneers who laid the framework for the music of today.”
Laura Maczka, Mayor of Richardson, issued an official proclamation from the city endorsing its support of AFRIMMA.
Additionally, international television powerhouse, Sound City, is this
year’s media partner and will broadcast the award show throughout Africa. The
network has been dubbed as the “Pan- African Urban Music Channel,” and
will provide the exclusive broadcast of AFRIMMA.
